On Tuesday 18 March 2008, Carmen Squillante will be at the Stirling Italian Society.

"The Early Italian Families in Stirling" An illustrated talk by Michael Gainnadrea. Michael traces the arrival of the first Italians in Stirling as they worked hard to set up in business while integrating with the local community.

This will be followed by a short talk by author Carmen Squillante, brought up in an Irish-Italian family on Long Island and now living locally. "Flotsam is the Stuff that Floats" is her debut novel, a compelling story about the dynamics of an Italian family living in an American coastal community."

18th January 2008 Carmen will be reading an excerpt of `Flotsam' at the Reading Allowed reading on Friday at the Tchai Ovna Teahouse, Deanston Drive, Shawlands, Glasgow. Come along for an evening of poetry, prose and music.

Bookforce have just confirmed the schedule for the publication of ‘Flotsam is the Stuff that Floats’. The novel will be available from March 12th 2007. In the meantime you can read Chapter 1 by clicking on the picture of the book cover which will take you to the ‘Discovered Authors’ web-site where the extract is available. The first books from the National Prizewinners for the ‘Discovered Authors Competition 2005’ will be launched on Thursday 19 October 2006. It’s an opportunity for all the regional winners, including Carmen, to gather for a celebration party at John Murray publishers in Mayfair, London. Carmen’s prizewinning novel ‘Flotsam is the stuff that floats’ will be published early in 2007.
